Alternative use for Gliderol Steel Roller Garage Doors in Lancashire

Located near the village of Wray in north Lancashire the owner of this large detached garage made contact with us looking for a cost effective way to secure 4 garage entrances (the design of the building allows the homeowner to drive in one side and out of the other). Furthermore, as an add on to this the garage also had a large outdoor hot tub area built onto the back of it so the owner could relax and take in the magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. However as the exposed location is open to the winds the homeowner wanted something that would shelter the space and wondered if we had any options available that would fit in with the building design.

As this is a local job to us we were able to visit the property and after sitting down with the client was able to establish the following clear and concise brief.

Main Requirements

  • All 6 doors should have the same appearance and colour finish
  • There must be the option of manual and electric operation available (some are to be automated, some are to be hand operated)
  • Suitable for fixing to the inside of the building / structure
  • Strong yet lightweight design that can withstand high winds
  • The doors should need little maintenance
  • Insulation is not required as the building is partially open to the elements
  • Gliderol single skin roller doors fitted to hot tub area to provide shelter from the wind.

    Solution

After gaining a full understanding of the client requirements and space constraints we were able to come up a couple of solutions for the property owner to consider. The first option we proposed was to fit insulated roller garage doors to the garage then fits smaller extruded aluminium shutters in the same finish to the hot tub area. Despite the slight difference in components size it was felt this would be a good choice as the roller mechanisms would be full covered from the inside which would give a better finished appearance.

Our second and more affordable proposal was to go with 6 x Gliderol single skin steel roller doors. These were felt appropriate as manual and electric options are available, have a matching appearance from the inside and outside and despite having larger components would still fit into the space available above and to the side of the openings. Furthermore, as the doors are made from roll formed steel they are lightweight, durable and resistant to both wind and water making them a great choice for this exposed location.

    Garage Door Specification

After careful consideration on the part of the customer they decided the best course of action for them given their available budget was to opt for our second proposal. As such they were happy to order the roller doors in the following specification.

  • 6 x Gliderol Single Skin Roller Doors
  • Colour: Vandyke Brown
  • 4 x spring assisted manual opening doors
  • 2 x electric roller doors with remote controls and internal wall mounted control boxes
  • Installation

Due to the simplistic nature of the roller doors selected they are perfect for DIY installation and as such the customer selected to go down this route given the fact that 6 x doors were required. Each door takes about half a day to install and as such the customer was able to save a considerable amount of money off an installer price.

    Customer Review

“Hi guys, I have just got around to fitting the last door and have to say i am very impressed with the results. The garage now looks great and has given me added peace of mind that my tools and machinery will remain safer than before. The small roller doors i have used as side screens are proving to be really effective at cutting down on the cross winds and as a result the area is a more enjoyable place to spend time. I am therefore very pleased with your advice, level of service and short delivery period from point of ordering therefore would have no hesitation in recommending you to friends, family and colleagues.”
